Dan Tuten

Dr. Dan Tuten is a seasoned cybersecurity and information technology executive with over 25 years of experience leading secure enterprise IT operations across federal agencies and state government. He has demonstrated success in securing critical systems, managing risk across complex infrastructures, and driving IT governance in support of national public health, tax systems, and defense. Proven leader in cybersecurity strategy, compliance (FISMA, NIST, CMMC), enterprise architecture, and cross-agency collaboration. As just one example among many, he led the team to produce the first FISMA triple high security application utilizing cloud native technologies for the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). This application required not only baking in security requirements from the very beginning but also the coordination of sometimes conflicting requirements among HHS, USDA and the FBI. Dr. Tuten holds certifications at all levels within the Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) ecosystem as the Certified Information System Security Professional designation from ISC2. These include the most senior auditing credential, Lead CMMC Certified Auditor (LCCA) as well as CMMC Certified Auditor (CCA), CMMC Certified Professional (CCP), Registered Provider (RP) and Registered Provider Advanced (RPA). He has been designated as an instructor for the ecosystem as a Provisional Instructor while the CMMC Certified Instructor program is in development. In addition to the cybersecurity specific certifications, he holds multiple project management and IT industry certifications that cover system engineering, administration, and development. He is currently working on AI certifications as in IT things are ever changing. As one of his mentors put it, “Study or perish!”
