Living My Power
About Theresa Sjoquist
Being raised as a people-pleaser taught me to give my power away without knowing it. It was in the blaming, and in the "I'd love to, but..." Blaming and excuse-making cripple you and your best people, yet it's built into our social structure, sold as politeness, manners. That "but" is the one that makes whatever you really want to achieve, impossible. The fixes are simple, but first you have to see it in yourself. After 12 years of independent research, I show you where to look, and how to open your own life and that of your people. I am the published author of a major New Zealand arts biography: Yvonne Rust: Maverick Spirit (David Ling, 2011), with a second book awaiting publication; Who Me...A Victim? which looks at the societal effects of socially acceptable blame. My third book; Improbable Possibilities - looks at the 'but' mentioned above, and the societal effects of the incapacity to imagine something different, and how the world might look when we ignore the 'but'.
